Mr. Li from Shanghai has become quite popular because he insists on rowing to work every day, and people think he’s really cool. Mr. Li has been rowing to work for 46 days, and through this unique mode of commuting, he has managed to lose a significant amount of weight.
Mr. Li is 38 years old and he is very fond of outdoor sports, including triathlons, hiking, mountain climbing, and sailing. Last year, he started practicing kayaking and, in the process, he discovered that the river next to his company is navigable from his home, and people are allowed to row freely without any prohibition from the government. So, he decided to commute by rowing.
The water distance from Mr. Li’s home to his company is about 6 kilometers, and it takes him approximately 50 minutes to row each way. Including the time for walking and changing clothes, the entire commute takes him 1 hour and 15 minutes. Although it takes longer than driving or cycling, Mr. Li believes that rowing to work allows him to combine his hobbies, exercise, and daily life, eliminating the need to find extra time for exercise. He finds this method to be very efficient and healthy.
Many people are interested in trying this novel way of commuting, but Mr. Li says that safety is the most important consideration and does not recommend it for those without rowing experience.
